FinancialPrivacyNow.org, a project of Consumers Union, informs consumers about how sensitive financial information increasingly is being used without consumers’ permission. The site offers consumer tips for regaining control over sensitive financial data, as well as a mechanism for consumers to contact elected officials about the importance of protecting consumers’ financial privacy.

Investing Online Resource Center (IORC)

IORC, launched in December 1999, is an independent organization committed to educating consumers about online investing. IORC is funded by the North American Securities Administrators Association, the Washington State Department of Financial Institutions and the non-profit organization Investor Protection Trust.

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)

Established by Congress in 1934, the SEC identifies as its primary mission protecting investors, and overseeing and regulating the securities markets in the United States. The SEC also provides consumers tips on how to use the Internet to invest wisely and how to avoid cyberfraud. The SEC is comprised of five presidentially-appointed commissioners.
