The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME)

ASME is a professional organization made up of editors of consumer magazines and business publications edited, published and sold in the United States. ASME has developed a set of comprehensive guidelines governing magazines' editorial and advertising pages and worked with the Magazine Publishers of America to jointly issue guidelines for best practices in digital media.

IRE is a non-profit journalism organization and educational institute based at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. Formed in 1975, IRE now has more than 5,000 members in the United States and abroad. Among its many programs, the organization operates the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting, which trains reporters in the practical skills of finding and analyzing electronic information.

OJR, a project of the Annenberg School of Communication of the University of Southern California, was founded in 1998 to report on the world of online journalism. OJR emphasizes the use of journalistic standards to the online world.

Online News Association (ONA)

ONA is an association composed largely of professional online journalists. The Association has more than 600 professional members whose principal livelihood involves gathering or producing news for digital presentation. The ONA's Digital Journalism Credibility Project, funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, recently studied credibility issues on online news Web sites.
