Children's Advertising Review Unit (CARU)

CARU, operated by the Council of Better Business Bureaus, reviews advertising and promotional material directed at children in all media. CARU's self-regulatory guidelines for children's advertising address issues, such as privacy, that are unique to the Internet and online sites directed at children age 12 and under.

Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB)

Founded in 1996, the IAB is the industry's leading online advertising association. Its activities include evaluating and recommending guidelines and best practices, and educating the advertising industry about the use of online advertising. The IAB has fielded research on Internet advertising trends and effectiveness, and it has partnered with the Privacy Leadership Initiative in launching a public service ad campaign to inform consumers about how to protect privacy online.
