Harvard University’s Berkman Center and the Oxford Internet Institute have launched a "Neighborhood Watch" initiative against spyware and other malicious software programs. The Stop Badware Coalition, for which WebWatch will serve as a special advisor, will spotlight companies that make millions of dollars by tricking Internet users to download malicious spyware, adware and malware programs they don’t want.

The Internet Alliance (IA)

IA, a subsidiary of the Direct Marketing Association, is a trade association of online industry professionals at the state, federal and international levels. The IA employs various techniques — public policy, industry advocacy, consumer education, media relations — to position the Internet as the preferred medium for worldwide communication and commerce.

The Privacy Foundation is a public education organization that focuses on researching communication technologies that may pose a threat to personal privacy online. The Foundation also educates the public about possible threats to individual privacy rights.

Privacy Now!

Privacy Now! is the Electronic Frontier Foundation's consumer advocacy campaign to protect personal information online. The Web site offers a range of links to sites addressing the issue of online privacy and security. The San Francisco-based Electronic Frontier Foundation is a donor-supported membership organization dedicated to educating the public, press and policy makers about civil liberties issues related to technology.

Privacy.org is an online resource for news and information on initiatives addressing the protection of privacy. The Web site is a joint project of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, a public interest research center in Washington, D.C., and Privacy International, a London-based human rights group.

The Privacy Rights Clearinghouse (PRC)

PRC is a California-based non-profit consumer information, research and advocacy program seeking to protect consumers' personal information. A component of the PRC's work is focused on online privacy. The PRC was established in 1992 at the University of San Diego Center for Public Interest Law, and since 1996 has been a program of the Utility Consumers' Action Network, a non-profit organization.
